What is cupping therapy?
Cupping uses special cups that create gentle suction on the skin. Where massage presses down, cupping lifts the tissue up, which can help ease tight spots and restricted movement. It's often added to a massage, or used on its own for a specific problem area.
Types of cupping we offer
- Static cupping: cups stay in place for a short time
- Glide cupping: cups move gently across the skin
- Combination cupping: paired with massage techniques
We choose the approach with you, based on your needs and comfort.
Who it's for
- Ongoing muscle tightness
- Stiffness or limited movement
- Athletes and active people
- Anyone who doesn’t enjoy deep pressure
What to expect
We start by talking through your problem areas, pressure tolerance and anything medical we should know. Cups go on targeted areas for short periods, with the suction adjusted as needed.
Round marks can appear where the cups were. They're temporary and usually fade within several days.
How often?
- Active or athletic clients: every 1 to 2 weeks
- Ongoing tension or stiffness: every 2 to 4 weeks
- Maintenance: as needed
Cupping or deep tissue?
Both work on muscle tension, in opposite directions.
Cupping
- Suction lifts the tissue
- Focused on easing tightness and movement
- Often gentler than deep pressure
Deep tissue
- Firm, direct pressure
- Targets deeper muscle layers
- Good for ongoing tension
Questions
Is cupping safe?
It’s safe for most clients when performed by a licensed professional. If you have medical conditions, sensitive skin, or are pregnant, please tell us ahead of time so we can adjust or suggest another option.
Will it leave marks?
It can. Round marks are common and temporary, and usually fade within several days. If you have an event coming up, tell us and we’ll plan around it.
What do I need ready?
Just a comfortable space. We bring the cups, plus the table and linens if you’re adding a massage.
