What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage uses slow, controlled pressure to reach below the surface muscles, where tight areas, knots and restricted movement live. Unlike a relaxation massage, it works on specific problem areas to release tension and help you move more freely.

Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort and feedback. The goal is real relief, not unnecessary discomfort.

Who it's for

  • Ongoing neck, shoulder or lower back tension
  • Physically demanding jobs
  • Tightness from long hours of sitting or poor posture
  • Athletes and active people
  • Anyone with limited mobility or muscle restriction

What to expect

We start with a short chat about your problem areas, any medical considerations and the pressure you like. Then expect targeted work on those areas, slow and deliberate pressure, and check-ins as we go.

Some soreness afterward is normal and usually fades within a day or two.

How often?

  • Ongoing tension: every 1 to 2 weeks
  • Maintenance: once a month
  • Busy, active or stressful stretches: as needed

Deep tissue or Swedish?

Both help. Deep tissue is more focused; Swedish is more about relaxing.

Deep tissue

  • Targets deeper muscle layers
  • Slower, firmer pressure
  • Good for ongoing tension

Swedish

  • Lighter pressure
  • Focused on relaxation
  • Good for stress and circulation

Questions

Is deep tissue massage safe?

It’s safe for most people when performed by a licensed professional. If you have medical conditions, recent injuries or specific concerns, please tell us before your session so we can adjust.

Will it hurt?

It shouldn’t. Firm pressure can feel intense on tight spots, so tell us anytime and we’ll ease off. Relief is the goal.

What do I need ready?

Just a quiet space. We bring the table, linens, oils and supplies.
